About dorsaVi
Introduction
dorsaVi Pty Ltd (previously Pro-Active Medical Pty Ltd) is a biotechnology company focused on developing innovative motion analysis device technologies. dorsaVi comes from ‘dorsa’, Latin for ‘back’ and Vi which is a derivative of the French for ‘life’, ‘Vie’.
History of product development
Early clinical trials held in 2004 successfully demonstrated that our Version 3 prototype provided reliable and valid measurements of lower back movement. Industrial trials carried out at Linfox in 2006 demonstrated that the measuring device coped functionally with the rigours of heavy labour work environment.
Based on the positive results of this early work, combined with support from industry professionals and academics, a clinical trial was initiated in late 2009. The aim of the trial is to assess whether movement-based biofeedback (based on device data) improves pain and functional outcomes for patients with lower back pain. Positive interim results from the trial provide early evidence that biofeedback may assist subjects with chronic low back pain (see Clinical Results).
Funding
Pro-Active Industries Pty Ltd undertook the early stage research and technology development with assistance from two federal government grants (R&D Start 2000 and Biotechnology Innovation Fund, BIF 2002).
In 2008, we attracted an investment from venture capital firm, Starfish Ventures (Technology Fund II) and formed Pro-Active Medical Pty Ltd (recently renamed dorsaVi Pty Ltd). This allowed us to develop our wireless sensor system and, in turn, our three distinct products: ViMove for the clinical market, ViSafe for the work safety market and ViPerform for the sport market.
